‘Better than free coaches!’: Manchester United away ticket price drop welcomed by fan groups

By Tom Belger

Manchester United are lowering the cost of watching the Reds away by £4 after consulting the Fan’s Forum.

The decision comes as part of the £200,000 set aside by each Premier League club to encourage more fans to travel to away games.

The scheme will begin on November 2 when United travel to Craven Cottage to play Fulham and it is being welcomed by supporters.

“Excellent news by @ManUtd with regards to knocking money off the price of our away tickets,” fans’ group Stretford End Flags wrote on twitter.

“It’s a welcome move. Much better than providing free coaches as some clubs have.”

In a statement on the club’s website United said: “The club wanted to discuss the matter with the Fans’ Forum before it decided how to spend the budget.

“The discount will apply to every away Premier League game from Fulham onwards and, if there is any money left over, that will be added to next year’s £200,000.”

The discount only applies to Premier League games which means supporters will still have to pay full price for European, FA Cup and Capital One Cup away games.

It is the second time in two months that United have consulted the Fan’s Forum.

They reached an agreement in September to create a singing section for the Real Sociedad European home game as the club look to improve relationships with fans.
