Manchester City look set to splurge on another big budget signing – by stealing Anzhi Makhachkala’s Willian from under the noses of Tottenham for £35million.
The midfielder only arrived at the Russian side in January 2013 following a £30million move from Shakhtar Donetsk.
But following Anzhi’s disastrous start to the season – which could see former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen sacked after just 16 days in charge – the whole playing squad has been put up for sale by the club’s owner.
Reports in Brazil suggest that City is the most likely destination for the 24-year-old.
If he were to join the Blues he would link up with former Shakhtar Donetsk team-mate Fernadinho, who signed for City in June for £30million.
City spent significantly this summer, outlaying just shy of £100million on midfielder Fernandinho, winger Jesus Navas, and forwards Stevan Jovetic and Alvaro Negredo.
The Brazilian international has played 17 games for Anzhi scoring once and providing six assists.
