Three Willy: Manchester City land Argentinian goalie Caballero to pressure England’s Joe Hart

New Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero foresees a battle for the number one shirt at the Etihad after the Argentinian became the Premier League champions’ third signing of the summer.

Caballero, 32, has joined City from Malaga on a three-year deal, following the signings of Fernando and Bacary Sagna.

While Hart got back to his best in City’s title charge last season after being dropped by Manuel Pellegrini, the Englishman will face stiff competition from the experienced Caballero.

“City already have a great goalkeeper in Joe Hart, but I will try and compete for the no. 1 spot. I will do my best in the training sessions,” said Caballero.

“This is a new challenge and a new league for me. I have been doing well in the previous years and my goal is to go on and hopefully perform at the same level for City.”

Caballero kicked off his career in Argentina before a move to Spain’s Elche in 2004, followed by a spell at Malaga under Pellegrini.

“The most beautiful moments of my career were under Manuel Pellegrini in Malaga, where we achieved big things and we made Malaga’s name known around Europe.

“But I also like the way he works. I think his best quality is giving players the confidence to achieve their potential.”
