Grass isn’t greener elsewhere, Wayne! Bryan Robson and Andy Cole urge Rooney to stay at Manchester United

By Glen Keogh

The longest-serving captain in Manchester United’s history and their former star striker have urged wantaway Wayne Rooney to stay at the club.

Bryan Robson and Andy Cole were inevitably quizzed on the striker’s future at a press conference held this afternoon to support the club’s partnership with Russian airline Aeroflot.

Robson said that although Rooney may think the grass is greener elsewhere, he would be wrong to leave the Premier League champions.

“I think that Wayne is a great footballer and sometimes when you’re a great footballer you do look at pastures and think they’re greener than where you are at,” he said.

“But I think just looking at this launch today shows just how big Manchester United are.

“For me, Wayne has everything he could possibly want at this football club, so hopefully he can be happy and entertain us because as a football supporter and now a Manchester United supporter I want to see the best players at my club.

“It’s very obvious that all the squad and the manager want Wayne to be playing his football here next season.”

The former England skipper’s thoughts were echoed by Andy Cole, who admitted he wished he had never left United in his playing days.

The 41-year-old scored 121 goals for the Red Devils in a prolific six-year spell at the club, and is now back as a club ambassador.

“It’s a great football club and Wayne doesn’t want to leave this football club,” he said.

“I wish I had never left this football club. He’s a top player and has a great platform here to do what he needs to do.

“Fingers crossed he will stay – everyone wants him to stay. David Moyes has come out and said he’s not for sale and I think that should be end of it, to be brutally honest.”
