A shock move for Manchester United captain and talisman Nemanja Vidic could be on the cards after the Serbian’s agent dropped hints of a possible move away from Old Trafford.
The 32-year-old centre-back has been part of a below-par Red Devils side who have struggled under the new management of David Moyes.
It has now emerged that Vidic, who has been a mainstay at the heart of United’s defence since his arrival from Spartak Moscow in 2006, could be on the verge of a move to Italian side Napoli.
On Radio Crc, Vidic’s agent, Silvano Martina, said: “Vidic is a very good player and will have no trouble finding a new club. For the time being we are remaining calm.
“However, at the moment, I would rule out an extension with Manchester United.”
The commanding defender’s representatives have insisted that he is likely to depart from the Premier League champions, but has claimed that there has been no contact from Rafael Benítez’s Napoli side yet.
“Vidic, given his contract situation, has several teams looking at him.
“Napoli? At the moment there has been no contact.
“But thanks to the management of [President] De Laurentiis and [sporting director] Bigon, they are one of the best clubs in Europe.”
The Serbian defender transferred to United for around £7million and has represented the club 281 times, netting 19 goals.
Vidic has, until now, had a successful period at Old Trafford, winning the Premier League five times and the UEFA Champions League once.
