Oldham have decided to extend the trial of a singing section for two further games after its success against Bradford City on Tuesday, a move manager Lee Johnson hopes will spur the team on against Fleetwood on Saturday.
The visitors sit second in League One, 15 places higher than the Latics, although the home side have momentum on their side having won two games in the past week.
With the Fishermen winless in their last three and Oldham finding their form, and singing voices, Johnson was in upbeat mood ahead of the match.
“We want to start a league run and it’s a great start for us on Saturday and with all the fans behind us, we should have a good chance of getting something from the game,” Johnson told the club website.
“The players have got that buzz that they want to kick on from this recent good form. Bradford was a good win and the timing of it was good.
“I want to be higher up the division but it’s still early days yet. I’m happy with the recent form and defensive display that I’ve seen but going forward I do expect more in front of goal.”
Johnson paid little attention to Fleetwood’s three-match winless run, pointing out they had rested a number of players.
“They will come here bright and fresh. It will be a good tight game and quite a tactical battle,” said Johnson.
“They have some good players in form. They have signed Proctor, Sarcevic and Ball who are always threats. It will be a good game and a good one to watch.”
Johnson made a move to remedy this problem with the deadline day signing of Leeds United attacker Dominic Poleon.
“We know he has the raw potential to be a big asset to this club,” added the manager.
