Scott Carson looks to get career back on track as he joins Owen Coyle’s Wigan Athletic revolution

By Marios Papaloizou

New Wigan Athletic boss Owen Coyle is wasting no time getting his squad assembled for the new season.

Having already signed four players this week Coyle has brought in goalkeeper Scott Carson from Turkish side Bursaspor.

Carson, 27, has signed a one-year deal with the club and will compete with Ali Al-Habsi for the number one spot.

The goalkeeper has played for a variety of clubs in England and has also made four appearances at senior international level.

“I’m over the moon to join the club and for sorting the while move out. Now the focus is to get my head down and start working hard in time for the new season,” Carson told the club’s website.

“Coming into a squad with a new look to it is exciting. There are plenty of players coming in at the moment but there are also a number of guys here who have been at the club for a long time so I’m sure they’ll help lads like myself settle in, and right now I can’t wait to start getting involved.”

“Everyone talks about how tough the league is and they’re right, you have to be at your best if you’re going to come out on top and with a lot of games to play it’s going to be really demanding on us this year,” he added.

Carson played over a hundred games for West Bromwich Albion and impressed during his time at the Hawthorns before moving to Turkey.

However he is, perhaps, best known for his competitive England debut in which he made a horrific error which led to a goal in a crucial Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia.

The transfer window has only been open for a short amount of time and Coyle is clearly looking to assemble a squad that is capable of regaining the Latics Premier League status.
