Inter Milan have confirmed Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic’s departure from the Premier League with the Serbian defender to ply his trade in Serie A from next season.
Vidic, 32, stated his intention to leave United last month having joined in 2006, winning five Premier League titles, the 2007/08 Champions League and making nearly 300 appearances.
Inter president president Erick Thohir said the signing of Vidic was paramount to the Italian side’s vision for the future.
“Vidic is a world-class player. I’m extremely happy to have completed this deal to bring Nemanja to Milan,” he told the Inter website.
“He’s one of the world’s best defenders and his qualities, international pedigree and charisma will be an asset to the team and help bring through our younger players.
“He will bring added value to the club and is another piece of the great Inter side we are building.”
United manager David Moyes said last month the decision had been mutually agreed, although Vidic reportedly discussed a potential extension at Old Trafford only to explore other options when talks were not forthcoming over the June expiry of his current contract.
Vidic will nonetheless remain as club skipper, a position he has held since the start of the 2010-11 campaign.
Vidic started his career at Spartak Subotica before a move to Red Star Belgrade and then Spartak Moscow in 2004.
The defender signed for United in January 2006 then made his debut at the end of that month against Blackburn Rovers while he retired from internationals in 2011 having racked up 56 caps, scoring twice.
