Gary Caldwell’s Wigan Athletic travel to the Proact Stadium on Saturday (3pm) in a bid to earn their first points away from home this season.
The Latics travel to an in-form Chesterfield side who have made a positive start to the new League One campaign winning three of their opening five games.
Wigan currently sit eleventh in the League One table and will be eager to push on after beating Crewe Alexandra 1-0 in their previous encounter.
After suffering an agonising play-off semi-final defeat to Preston North End last season, Dean Saunders is looking to go one better than his predecessor Paul Cook and guide Chesterfield to the Championship.
Caldwell embarking on his first job in football management has made a steady start to life at the DW stadium.
Caldwell will be eager to make an immediate return to the Championship after a turbulent campaign last year.
Wigan have endured a heavy summer of transition and a host of new faces are now plying their trade under Caldwell’s stewardship.
Gary Caldwell continued to strengthen his much changed outfit right to the latter stages of transfer deadline day.
Caldwell managed to conjure up three signings on deadline day and took his summer incomings to an astonishing 20.
Andy Kellett, 21, has joined from Bolton for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal.
Haris Vučkić, 23-year-old joins on a season-long loan from Newcastle, having spent the second half of last term with Scottish giants Rangers.
Welcomed into training by manager Gary Caldwell on Wednesday, Vuckic said the environment at Christopher Park has been a friendly one.
“Gary has been very welcoming; he told me as long as I train well I will get my chance in the team.
“I’m very happy to be here and I’m looking forward to the challenge. I came here to play football and to show myself.”
Jack Hendry, 20, was the last acquisition on deadline day. Hendry joined for an undisclosed fee from Scottish side Partick Thistle.
All three players are available to make their debuts at Chesterfield this Saturday.
Since the January transfer window a staggering 68 players have either come in or moved on from the DW stadium (Including loan deals).
Such an upheaval could go a long way to explaining the disastrous campaign that the Wigan faithful had to endure last season.
But with the window slammed shut, Gary Caldwell will aim to stabilise the club and bring consistency back to the Latics.
A win away to high-flying Chesterfield on Saturday will represent the perfect start for a new look Wigan side.
