Save our country: Bolton MP needs 100,000 signatures for House of Commons ‘future of football’ debate

A Bolton MP is calling for 100,000 signatures to ignite a House of Commons debate about the future of football in this country.

David Crausby, who has represented Bolton North East since 1997, has re-launched a campaign to change the way children’s football is funded having originally kicked it off in 2013.
Mr Crausby wants the FA to ring-fence 7.5% of the money generated by TV deals to go towards grassroots football but he first needs the support required to take the fight to a higher level.

“Our performance in the World Cup shows that while England has the best league in the world, we need to do much more if we want our national team to be the best in the world as well,” said Mr Crausby.

“I want all children to have the chance to play football in a safe and organised environment with good quality pitches,” he added, talking on talkSPORT following England’s exit at the group stages of the World Cup where they managed a solitary point.

“Money pours into the very top of the sport, the Premier League, and it’s time that was reinvested into opening up the sport to everyone.”

Last year the Premier League signed new deals for TV broadcasting rights, worth more than £5 billion across three seasons.

Mr Crausby added: “The campaign has grown significantly since it was launched last year and more people than ever are talking about the future of grassroots football.

“I hope that the new petition will keep this conversation going and that enough people will add their name to take the conversation right into the House of Commons.”

The petition is live now on epetitions.direct.gov.uk and can also be accessed via davidcrausby.co.uk.
