Bolton Wanderers manager Dougie Freedman dedicated Saturday’s 4-0 rout of local rivals Blackburn Rovers to his side’s long-suffering supporters.
Goals from Medo Kamara, Joe Mason, Jay Spearing and Andre Moritz helped the Trotters secure their biggest victory of the season and move Bolton nine points away from the relegation zone.
However, what pleased Freedman the most was being able to put a smile on the fans’ faces after what has been a tough few weeks for the supporters.
“It was a result for the fans today, there is no doubt about that, as they have stuck by us through some difficult moments,” Freedman told the club’s website.
“There have been some testing days but, as the coach, I represent this football club and I try not to come up with many excuses or point fingers.
“Some days you will have highs and lows. And today was definitely a high against our local rivals in a derby match.”
The thrashing of Rovers is sweet revenge for many of the fans after they were left humiliated by a 4-1 defeat earlier in the season at Ewood Park.
They will have the bragging rights this time after Freedman finally saw the performance he knew his side were always capable of.
“I felt that our approach play today was fantastic and we created some entertaining stuff.
“We were by far the better team and we outplayed them, we outpassed them and we created numerous opportunities which were very pleasing to see.”
Bolton scored twice in the first half thanks to goals from Kamara and Mason but, unlike previous home games, they were able to kill the game off straight after half-time when Spearing added a third.
Moritz managed to put the icing on the cake in the 90th minute when and now Freedman expects his side to carry on these performances after back-to-back victories at the Reebok for the first time this season.
“We work hard on the training ground and we’re working towards success.
“Along the way, you might not please everybody, but I felt that on Saturday we touched upon a certain game which is the way I want us to go.”
