‘We’ll go the distance’: Keith Hill confident Rochdale are serious League Two promotion candidates

By Josh Nicholls

Rochdale manager Keith Hill believes his side displayed League Two promotion credentials in their 0-0 draw at York City on Saturday.

After shipping four in mid-week at home to Scunthorpe United, Dale comfortably nullified York even without centre-halves Olly Lancashire and Jack O’Connell who were both suspended.

This was Dale’s first clean sheet away from home in the league this season and Hill was delighted with his players afterwards.

“It’s a performance that shows we’re capable of sustaining our challenge at the top of the table,” Hill told The Dale Player.

“I said at the beginning of the season that I believed we had a chance of getting in the top seven but as the season progresses the players believe they’ve got a chance of getting in the top three.

“I’d still be reasonably happy with a top seven finish.”

Renowned in League Two as an exciting, passing team, Dale’s performance at York was more gritty than ground-breaking but their manager was pleased nonetheless.

“Even though it wasn’t pleasing on the eye with respect to it being free-flowing, champagne soccer it was resolute and we did get our chances especially in the second half to go on and win it,” added Hill.

“I’m really pleased with where we are. I keep seeing or sensing a little bit of disappointment and I don’t see any.

“I see a vision for the football club, I see a vision for the rest of the season with the players that we’ve got and they’re all capable, they’re good players, they’re goods lads, they’re honest and we got an honest result (at York).”
