Ashton United boss Steve Halford believes his side may be tested against Frickley Athletic tonight but is confident they have what it takes to ‘beat anyone’.

United host Frickley Athletic in tonight’s only Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division clash.

Frickley will be hoping to bounce back after being knocked out of the FA Cup qualifying round by Marske United on Saturday.

Halford believes Frickley will be ready for the battle against his men at Hurst Cross.

“They’ll be focused back to the league now, we need to turn up and get maximum points. It’s a tough game,” he said.

“(We’re) confident of beating anyone, consistency is the key but the next couple of games we will be tested.

“We’ve got a couple of suspensions and injuries so the next couple of weeks will be a telling time.”

In last night’s Premier Division fixtures, Marine thrashed Droylsden 5-1 at Rossett Park whilst Trafford defeated Skelmersdale United 2-0 at home.

Mossley beat local rivals 3-1 in the first division clash with Ryan Marley, Douglas Carroll and Charlie Anderson on target at Seel Park after Gary Prescott put the visitors 1-0 up.

Curzon Ashton’s FA Cup dream remained alive after beating Lancaster City 2-1 at Giant Axe.

A Neil Marshall own goal and Christopher Rowney finish put John Flanagan’s men 2-0 up before Mark Jackson scored a consolation for the home side in the 90th minute.

The home side saw their unbeaten record this season come to an end and captain Neil Marshall was taken to hospital after being stamped on by Curzon’s Ryan Broo who saw red.

He later tweeted: “It’s nothing too serious just waiting to see a doctor, very sore but will be back very soon, maybe Saturday if I get my own way.”
