Tom Cleverley’s 2014 World Cup nightmare has come back to haunt him.
The Manchester United man’s face is being superimposed by social media users on a comedian who attempted to board the airport-bound England bus.
Cleverley, once touted as England’s answer to unlocking the midfield puzzle, became victim to a public petition earlier this year that called for him to be banned from Roy Hodgson’s team, so bad had his performances for United been this season.
This time around the midfielder’s face has been uploaded onto Twitter on the shoulders of serial prankster Simon Brodkin, the comedian who tried to board the squad’s bus near Luton Airport yesterday with England bound for Miami ahead of their June 14 opener with Italy in Group D.

Cleverley has played 78 times for United and scored five goals, having first joined in 2005 though not making his debut until 2011. The 24-year-old also has 13 international caps, the last of which came against Germany in November.
