Manchester United are closing in on Radamel Falcao’s signature on a season-long loan.
News emerged in the early hours that United had moved to acquire the services of the Colombian striker and were fighting with local rivals Manchester City and Arsenal for his signature.
Falcao, 28, has been linked with a move away from Monaco, who he joined for £50million in May 2013, throughout the summer.
The Colombian, who has scored 11 goals in 20 appearances for the French Ligue 1 side, has been strongly linked to Real Madrid, as well as Italian champions Juventus.
He previously played for Portuguese side Porto and Spanish club Atletico Madrid, where he scored 35 goals in 46 league game.
Earlier today a number of Colombian journalists reported that a fee had been agreed for the prolific striker to move United in the region of £50million.

Though neither club has officially announced the deal, a number of reliable sources have taken to Twitter to announce that a deal had been agreed to take the striker on a season long loan.
The deal will reportedly cost United in the region of £16million for the season with an option to make the deal permanent next summer.
Falcao has made three appearances for Monaco this season, after returning from anterior cruciate ligament damage that ruled him out of this summer’s World Cup.

Speculation began to pick up pace after he was dropped from Monaco’s squad shortly before Saturday’s draw against Lille.
Falcao had looked set to join Real Madrid after tweeting ‘Dream come true #halamadrid’.
The tweet was deleted amid claims the Colombian’s account had been hacked.
Falcao said: “I have to refute a story about a tweet I have not done and that is a photo montage.”
Real boss Carlo Ancelotti appears to have gone for the cheaper option of taking on United’s Javier Hernandez on loan.
