Manchester United have confirmed the appointments of three new members of their backroom staff to assist new manager David Moyes.
Steve Round, Chris Woods and Jimmy Lumsden have joined the Red Devils from Moyes’ former club Everton, after the Toffees agreed to release them.
The 42-year-old Round has become the club’s new assistant manager, with Woods and Lumsden as coach and goalkeeping coach respectively.
The trio replace Sir Alex Ferguson’s former assistants Mike Phelan, Rene Meulensteen and Eric Steele, who left after the club’s 20th league title triumph, with Meulensteen joining Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.
Boss Moyes told the club website: “I have worked with Steve, Chris and Jimmy for a number of years and I am delighted they have decided to join me at this great club.
“They bring great qualities in their respective fields and I know that, like me, they feel that this is a challenge to relish. I have great faith that together, we can build upon the success this club has enjoyed over many years.”
Round was made assistant boss at Everton in July 2008 following spells with the Middlesbrough and England coaching set-ups.
Woods, 53, spent 15 years as Everton’s goalkeeping coach after a goakeeping career at clubs such as Norwich City and Rangers.
He was also part of England’s 1986 and 1990 World Cup squads, as well as the European Championships in 1988 and 1992, and made 43 appearances for the Three Lions.
Lumsden, 65, was on Moyes coaching staff when his fellow Scot managed Preston North End.
Ed Woodward, Executive vice chairman, told MUFC.com: “I believe with David and his new team in place, along with our current backroom staff, we can now start preparing for the new season ahead.
“This is an exciting and challenging time for the club and I have great belief that David and his team will have all the energy and attributes needed to help this club continue in its long-standing traditions.”
