Sponsored 24-hour padel event raising funds for children’s hospice

Staff and members at a gym in Trafford are raising money for a children’s hospice with a 24-hour padel event.

David Lloyd Trafford is hosting a charity event tomorrow for Francis House Children’s Hospice, through a 24-hour padel tournament.

The health club challenged members and staff to take part in the event to raise money for the local charity.

Tennis and padel coach Alex Ward will be playing the full 24 hours and members are joining him throughout the tournament.

While padel is included in the membership costs at the health club, participants have been asked to donate £5 to secure their place in the tournament, to give back to the community.

The event allows members to enjoy the racket sport, which is constantly growing in popularity, whilst donating to a good cause.

Despite the event being organised last minute, members have been keen to participate, asking to play into the early hours of the morning.

David Lloyd Trafford’s assistant general manager, Hannah O’Driscoll-Hope, said: “I was surprised at the uptake we got and so many people are wanting to get involved.”

The club has more charity events planned before the end of the year and hopes to raise awareness towards the cause, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to Francis House. You can donate to the charity here.
