Santa dash hits Hale to support children’s charity

More than 100 cyclists and walkers took part in a Santa dash to raise nearly £4,000 for a children’s charity.

The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT) hosted a fundraiser at Bowdon Cricket Club in Hale, challenging riders to cycle 60 or 30 miles and walkers to an eight or four mile route to raise money for their Winter Woodland Programme.

The charity provides free programmes terminally ill, disabled and disadvantaged children from across the North West.

Jure Modic, CAFT’s sports and activities coordinator, said: “A visit to CAFT for a family costs as little as £12.

“To have made a difference to so many children’s lives is a great feeling.”

The charity event raised more than £3,800 which will help over 300 children to enjoy the Winter Woodland Programme. The charity must raise around £1million a year to run the facilities.

Participants embraced the holiday spirit, with Santa outfits complete with the white beards and Christmas hats – some even took to decorating their bikes in tinsel and lights!

This is the charity’s 10th time hosting the annual dash, which began after another charity donated some Santa suits and CAFT wanted to find a fun way to make use of them, whilst also raising some money.

The Christmas programme gives the chance for every child to meet Santa to take home a bespoke gift as well as enjoy a festive day out.

The fundraising page is still open for donations.
