The rainy city has been living up to its name recently. In April, the Met Office predicts that there is a ‘reasonable chance’ of dry spells, but unfortunately, wet weather is likely.
Mancunian Matters took to the streets of Manchester to get opinions on the rain, and not all spirits were damp.
Franz Ohl, 52, is from Dusseldorf but works in Manchester as a mechanic. He said the weather is ‘rubbish’, and has rained every day since arriving 4 weeks ago.
He said: “You just get on with it don’t you.”
David Rucki, 52, is a machinist from Salford. He’s looking forward to sunbathing, and drinking in a beer garden when the rain stops.
He said: “I actually feel better in the rain, it refreshes you.”
Toni, 64, is visiting Manchester from Melbourne, Australia during retirement. She said the weather is ‘cr*p’. It’s rained every day during their trip, meaning they have seen less.
She said: “I’ve stopped shopping, normally I would have gone and looked at all the shops.”
John, 65, from Rochdale, works in software, and said Manchester has always been wet. He enjoys photography, but struggles with the light when it rains.
He said: “If it’s chucking it down then nobody wants to go out and get soaked, but as long as it’s not freezing it’s not too bad.”
Gary Williamson, 51, from Clitherhoe, works for his local council, and is a keen photographer. He loves the rainy weather, because people have umbrellas up, and heads down.
He said: “Everybody is in their own enclosed world when it rains so I actually get closer.”
Lynsey, 69, is from Sheffield, works in retail. She said she’s looking forward to ‘not getting wet’.
She said: “Last time I came it rained and I got wet through, somebody came through a puddle and soaked me.”
Wesley Rowland, 22, is a chef from Walkden, and thought the weather is quite usual for Manchester.
He said: “It makes you feel a bit more sad doesn’t it, a bit miserable.”
