Four men have been arrested and £100,000 worth of suspected class A drugs were seized yesterday after a high speed car pursuit in Swinton.
The incident occurred after officers stopped a Volkswagen Caddy van near to the East Lancashire Road, Swinton as part of Operation Titan.
Officers arrested two men, aged 32 and 26, and recovered a kilo of what is believed to be a class A drug worth an estimated £100,000. A third man, 32, was arrested on Cromwell road but another suspect attempted to flee the scene in a Volkswagen Golf.
Following a police car pursuit, the Golf collided with a Honda Civic at the Texaco garage on Mount Skip Lane and police seized a further kilo of suspected class A controlled drugs from the vehicle.
The passengers of the Honda civic, a man and woman in their 40’s and another woman in her 20s, as well as a one-year-old baby were treated for minor injuries.
Detective Inspector Chris Astley, from Titan, explained: “Working with colleagues in GMP yesterday we arrested four men and recovered a significant amount of what we suspect is class A drugs.
“These arrests are part of an on-going operation to tackle organised crime gangs involved in the supply of class A drugs.”
Mr Astley is also reassuring the public that the police are taking proactive measures to tackle gang related problems.
“The public across the North West can be reassured that we are taking proactive measures, with colleagues from police forces across the region, to identify, disrupt and dismantle these gangs,” he said.
