Manchester City Council have released details of the national parade for Olympic and Paralympic stars that will take place in Manchester on October 17.
The parade will start from the Museum of Science and Industry and enter the Liverpool Road junction of Deansgate around 4:30pm where it will then continue for an hour before finally finishing at Albert Square.
Team GB were second only to USA in the medal table with a record overseas total of 67 medals, while the Paralympic GB Team were runners up to China with a staggering 147 medals.
Deputy Leader of the Council Sue Murphy said: “First and foremost this is will be a family-friendly event and we want to make sure as many people as possible can get into the city centre, be part of the celebration and help cheer on our Olympic and Paralympic heroes.
“Manchester is home to some of the biggest names of the Games and it is an honour to host the national parade for Team GB and Paralympic GB. Make a note in your diary – we want to line the streets and fill Albert Square to give our athletes the celebration they deserve.”
The parade, which is expected to bring thousands of people to cheer on the British heroes from Rio, will include Manchester-based gold medalists such as newly married couple Jason Kenny and Laura Trott and Paralympic triple-gold medalist Dame Sarah Storey.
On the journey, the parade will also go to Huntsbank, Todd Street, Corporation Street, Exchange Square and Cross Street.
There will be an event held at Albert Hall for the athletes at 5:30pm after the parade.
More information about the event is expected to be released in the coming days.
