Exciting new singer Kwabs will be giving the people of Manchester a pretty spectacular free concert at Oldham’s Chadderton Baths on Monday.
The exclusive gig with the Right or Wrong and Walk singer is part of the Nokia Lumia Sessions which see artists play in unique spots across the country.
Specially organised free buses to the surreal location will leave Manchester Piccadilly from 6.30 onwards, and return after the show from 9.30 on September 1.
With a sound that’s been described as ‘synth&b’, Kwabs is a musician with a mystique unlike his contemporaries.
The former student of jazz from the Royal Academy of music has received praise for his work from stars such as Jessie Ware, Laura Mvula, India Arie, Emeli Sandé and Plan B who he supported on tour.
He has also been tipped as one to watch by Radio 1 Xtra and MTV.
With strong, haunting and powerful baritone vocals, Kwabs is perfectly accompanied by a slick electronic beats and melancholy harmonies.
His energetic nature means that he will have no problems entertaining the masses in such a quirky location.
ALTERNATIVE BEAUTY: Oldham residents have won their bid to save Chadderton Baths
The unusual site of Chadderton baths will provide and intimate yet ethereal setting to hear Kwabs perform.
Originally opening in 1937, the art deco building which will play host to the event can definitely be considered one of Manchester’s most striking.
The pool was closed in 2006 after cracks were found in the roof, but now the community have won their bid to save the building from demolition.
Supporting Kwabs on the night will be the beautifully soulful Sinead Harnett who is the voice behind Disclosure’s Boiling, features on Rudimental track and has worked regularly with Snakehips.
ON POINT: Sinead has leant her dulcet tones to songs with Rudimental and Disclosure
