A man has died a week after he was assaulted at a block of flats in Salford.
James Holland, 57, died in hospital after suffering head injuries in the attack at Mulberry Court, Pendleton on Monday June 23.
Scott Richardson, 29, of Mulberry Court, Salford was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent on Saturday and will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court today.
A man was arrested by officers at the scene, however, was de-arrested after the injured man did not make a complaint of assault.
James’ family paid tribute to the 57-year-old and said: “Jimmy was a kind and loving man who would do anything to help anyone. He was a wonderful character and was well-loved by everyone who came into contact with him.
“This has left our family totally devastated and shocked, and our lives will never be the same without him in it.
“We would like to thank the hospital, all his friends and family for all the support, and take great comfort in this.
“We would also ask that we as a family be left alone and allowed to grieve without any intrusion.”
A post mortem to establish the cause of death is yet to take place.
As a matter of procedure, the matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
Superintendent Mark Kenny said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Holland’s family at this difficult time.
“Our investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident is ongoing and I would ask any members of the public who may have information about the incident to come forward to assist the investigation.”
