Police are on the hunt for jewellery stolen from an elderly couple in a terrifying axe robbery that left an 83-year-old man with cuts to his hands.
The heartless burglary happened at about 8.15am on January 25 when a man approached couple’s home on Foster Lane in Breightmet.
After using a small axe to smash the front window the thug climbed into the house and made his way to the couple’s bedroom and confronted them.
He threatened the elderly man with the axe and, during a scuffle the man the injuries to his hands.
The assailant pushed the man over and snatched several items before running off towards Dovedale Road.
Two men aged 20 and 23 have been arrested but police are still searching for the missing jewellery .
Detective Inspector Charlotte Cadden from Bolton division, said: “The jewellery holds a great deal of sentimental value to the couple, especially the engagement ring so I am keen to hear from anyone who has been offered any of the stolen goods.
The items stolen in the robbery were a ladies engagement ring with three large diamonds, a woman’s gold Omega watch, a man’s Zenyth watch with a brown strap, a man’s Guess watch with a steel bangle, a gold chain and £20 notes stained with the victim’s blood.
