Budding artists are being given the chance to compete for prizes ahead of the opening of the fifth Open Art competition at Bolton Museum in December
Artists have two months to put brush to canvas and submit their entries which will be judged by an independent panel.
Among the esteemed judges is Helen Stalker – assistant curator at Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester – who will help to dish out the prizes.
Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Councillor Anthony Connell, said: “The Open Art exhibition at Bolton Museum is one of the highlights of the calendar for budding artists throughout the borough.
“It is a very popular competition and usually results in hundreds entries each year it takes place.
“The exhibition gives people a chance to have their work on display, often for the first time, and the judges normally have a tough choice on their hands in deciding on the final cut.
“It’s usually a very high standard of entries and I look forward to seeing the wealth of talent we have in Bolton once the final exhibition is put together.
“I’d like to wish good luck to everyone who enters.”
Submissions are welcomed from anyone over 16 who currently lives, works or studies within Bolton.
Artists are free to submit art in a variety of forms ranging from paintings, wall hangings and photography to textiles, sculpture, ceramics and glass.
The general public will also choose a Visitors’ Choice Award which will be presented at the end of the exhibition.
The museum will run the exhibition from December 7 to February 2.
Entries to the museum should be submitted in person on November 15 or November 16 between 10am and 4pm.
