The woman was declared dead at the scene and an initial inspection of the body revealed she had suffered cuts to the head.
A 34-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are being questioned by police.
Detective Superintendent Jon Chadwick, of the Major Incident Team, said: “We are still in the early stages of this investigation so we do not yet know exactly what happened.
“We can say that a woman has died in sudden and tragic circumstances and we are determined to find out what led up to this.
“We have arrested two people in connection with the death and this will allow us to interview them under caution and to get full accounts from them.
A post mortem examination will be carried out later on today to establish the cause of death.
Police have warned residents to expect an ‘increased police presence in the area’ as a result of the incident.
Anyone with information relating to the death are asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
