A Palestine action group staged a protest outside of Manchester city centre housing insurance firm Allianz on Tuesday 25 March.
Photographs from the scene on the morning show the Palestine Action protestors displaying a banner proclaiming “ALLIANZ INSURES ISRAEL’S GENOCIDE.”
Allianz is a global finances services company and has offices in the Landmark building on Oxford Street off St Peter’s Square.
Manchester Palestine Action describes themselves on their Facebook page as “A network of people in Manchester taking creative action against Israeli apartheid through BDS and other effective, participatory Palestine solidarity work.”
This is not the first time the company has been targeted by the action group, as in October they claimed responsibility for throwing red paint over the front of the building and smashing the glass in the doors and windows.
Of the Tuesday protest, the Palestine Action protestors said they opposed Allianz because the company provides liability insurance for Elbit, Israel’s largest weapons manufacturer.
Via promotional material circulated to passers by on Oxford Street, the group claims that Allianz is directly complicit in the ongoing Zionist genocide in Gaza and the atrocities committed across Palestine.
Allianz said: “We respect everyone’s right to have and express their opinion. However, we will not give in to threats and criminal behaviour that endanger the safety or security of our people, business, and property. Allianz’s business decisions always undergo strict due diligence, guided by rigorous legal and international standards, and meet comprehensive environment, social and governance standards.”
