A number of Greater Manchester bands have been left without a rehearsal space after their rehearsal space was forced to close down due to a break-in.
The closure of Eckersley Mill in Wigan has left 20 local bands without a space to rehearse, including the emerging four-piece indie pop band, Stanleys, who was left ‘devastated’ by the news.
The breach of security comes at a time when the music scene in Wigan is thriving, with The Lathums, The Lottery Winners and the restoration of the Wigan Pier creating an exciting atmosphere within the Greater Manchester town.
The Stanleys took to Twitter to share the news.
However, the closure of Eckersley Mill has left musicians without any facilities to rehearse or resources to practice their music.
Stanleys are set to play NBHD Weekender this year and sold out a headline show at the Lions Den on Deansgate with XS Manchester on Sunday March 26.
They are building a loyal fan base through their live performances by supporting The Lathums’ sold-out show at O2 Victoria Warehouse as well as sold-out shows at O2 Ritz with Jamie Webster and The Lottery Winners.
The upcoming band are strongly rising through the ranks in the music industry, and they’re one of the brightest talents coming out of the North West.
Support has been offered to the band by anti-poverty charity The Brick and the Artistic Director for the cultural venue The Old Courts, Jonny Davenport, who is working closely with the Wigan Council to ensure bands and artists have access to quality facilities in the future.
