A teenage girl was left ‘deeply distressed’ following a harrowing attack by two boys at knifepoint in Gorton last week.
After being grabbed from behind, the girl, who was walking to a friend’s house, was dragged with a knife to her throat from Pink Bank Lane at around 19:00pm on Thursday March 19.
The attackers forced the victim down a passage – known locally as ‘Red Path’, opposite the Elgar Street junction.
The girl, 17, was unable to escape and was taken over a bridge to an area of nearby wasteland where one of the boys, thought to be in their teens, attempted to rape her before stealing her mobile phone.
Greater Manchester Police Detective Inspector Tanya Kitchen said: “This was a shocking and violent attack against a girl walking to a friend’s house on her own.
“It was a harrowing and deeply distressing experience for the young woman and the horrific details of the crime will surely concern the community as a whole.
The police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the attack to contact them immediately.
“We will be stepping up patrols in the area and we would ask anyone who might have seen the two boys to call us as soon as possible,” said Detective Inspector Kitchen.
One of the boys is described as light-skinned and of Eastern European-descent, aged between 17 and 19 years old, around 6ft tall with a skinny build.
He had a thin moustache, bushy eyebrows and had short, black hair that was gelled at the top.
The pair are believe to be from the area of Gorton as the victim thinks she may have seen them before.
