A campaign hoping to celebrate female achievement and tackle sexism will launch in Wigan next week.
The ‘Believe in Her’ movement promotes the successes of local women in billboards and bus adverts across the borough and several local celebrities.
The town Mayor, Councillor Phyll Cullen will begin the campaign, just a month after her second operation for breast cancer.
She said: “These days most women hold down a full time job, while raising a family.
“I don’t think they’re given enough credit for how hard they work – they really are inspirational.
“This campaign will celebrate these women, not just celebrities, but those ‘ordinary’ women demonstrate their resilience, strength and independence on a daily basis.”
Former Hollyoaks actress Sarah Jayne Dunn and Paralympian swimming champion Heather Frederiksen will be posing with placards at the event in celebration of female empowerment.
The movement has also seen several male celebrities pledge support to the campaign – including Sean O’Loughlin from Wigan Warriors.
The campaign will be officially launched outside the Great Arcade shopping centre on Compton Street on Monday March 2 at 10am.
‘Believe In Her’ is encouraging all supporters to get involved in the campaign – either by visiting the official website or by using the hashtag #BelieveInHer on Twitter.
