Crowds gathered to watch filming for the second series of The Piano in Manchester Piccadilly station yesterday.
What many thought would be a normal commute turned into something of a spectacle, as people stopped to watch filming for the hit Channel 4 show.
The Piano is a competition show which sees pianists go head to head playing a range of different genres for celebrity judges – pop icon Mika and world famous pianist Lang Lang.
While the judges were nowhere to be seen, the show’s host Claudia Winkleman drew a lot of attention from the crowd.
Kieth Schwimmer, 57, came to the station with his super-fan son Matthew, 19, and said: “Matthew recognised Claudia straight away. He’s chatted with her and had his picture taken with her!”
Filming for a Christmas special has already taken place in Kings Cross in London, and Manchester’s episode is scheduled to air in the New Year.
While not everyone had seen the show before, it seems The Piano has gained a much larger Mancunian audience.
Elaine Smith, 75, said: “I think it’s marvellous that they’ve done something like this and brought everyone together.
“It’s interesting – there are so many talented people.”
