A courier carrying a large amount of cash was attacked and robbed as he left a Barclays bank in Bury yesterday morning before the offender escaped on a motorbike.
He was intercepted at around 10.30am as he left the Barclays bank on Bury New Road in Prestwich.
A man ran at him and the courier tried to fight back but was punched in the face, falling to the floor – allowing the offender to escape with the cash box.
Police have arrested three men on suspicion of robbery and are now appealing for information and witnesses.
Detective Inspector Chris Mossop from the Serious Crime Division said officers were quickly on the scene and carried out a search which led to the arrest of three men and the recovery of the cash.
“We would ask if anyone was on Bury New Road at the time and may have seen the robbery take place or the motorbike in the area to speak to police,” he added.
The attacker escaped down Bury New Road with the cash box on the back of a motorbike, later transferring to a Fiat Punto.
Following the search, both vehicles were located along with the cash box.
The men, aged 31, 26 and 49, remain in police custody for questioning.
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
