General Election 2019: Meet the Salford and Eccles candidates

Labour’s Rebecca Long-Bailey won the Salford and Eccles seat in 2017 with a 65.5% majority.

She earned 31,168 votes, a significant amount more than the Conservative party who gained 12,036. There was a 61% turnout in 2017.

The constituency voted 53.59% to leave in the EU referendum.

Long-Bailey is the only candidate to be standing for re-election.

Bryan Blears – Green Party

He prioritises preserving the Green Belt, tackling congestion, publically owned transport and improving health and wellbeing across the city. Blears works for the NHS.

Rebecca Long-Bailey – Labour Party

Former Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

Grew up near the Old Trafford football ground and was greatly influenced by working in a pawn shop which taught her about the challenges people face. A trained, solicitor she was first elected as an MP for Salford and Eccles in 2015.

He is a Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Brexit party. He believes that the outcomes of the referendum must be respected.

Jake Overend – Liberal Democrats

His priorities include clearing the streets of Langworthy, putting an end to party politics in the local council and work with the people of Salford to ensure their voice is hear. He joined the party when he was at university just after the general election of 2015.
