A staggering 2.1million passengers passed through Manchester Airport last month, new figures reveal.
The airport soared above the national average for passenger growth, according to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The figures add to anticipation for this summer – with a whopping 84,000 expected to travel on August 23 alone.
Ken O’Toole, Chief Commercial Officer for MAG, owners of Manchester Airport, said: “We’ve seen over a year of continued month-on-month growth now and the next few months will provide an additional boost as over 14million passengers are expected to use Manchester Airport during the summer.
“We’re entering the full swing of the summer season and are expecting a further surge in passengers once the schools break up as millions of people fly away for a well-deserved break.”
Contributing to this increase are the levels of international flight traffic, which have risen by 9.4%.
TAP Portugal has noticed a surge in weekly flights to Lisbon, and Egypt Air also aims to increase its service from Manchester to Cairo by FIVE times.
Virgin Atlantic will also be offering 30,000 extra return seats to Orlando from Manchester Airport next summer.
Part of Manchester’s success is due to the airport’s ‘Fly Manchester’ campaign.
Launched in June, the campaign hopes to raise the airport’s profile as the North’s home for low cost flights, with airlines such as easyJet, Ryanair, Monarch, Jet2.com, Germanwings and Norwegian all flying from the city.
Manchester Airport is part of MAG, the UK’s second largest airport operator, serving 42million passengers every year through its ownership and operation of Manchester, London Stansted, East Midlands and Bournemouth airports.
