Flasher targets schoolgirl, 15, in Salford – police warn parents and children to be vigilant

By Danielle Wainwright

A flasher indecently exposed himself to a Pendleton schoolgirl and then followed her for several minutes before driving off earlier this month.

The 15-year-old girl was walking from a footbridge onto Hodge Lane on June 6 at around 2pm when the man pulled up alongside her in a dark green Vauxhall Corsa.

He then shouted to get her attention and flashed himself when she looked into the car.

She ignored him as he continued to drive at slow speed to engage with her but gave up and drove off when she eventually told him to leave her alone.

Detective Constable Andrew Quinn said: “I understand this will cause some anxiety among parents living in this area, but it is right we should publicise this incident so that parents, and their children, can be forewarned and be on the lookout for this offender.

“At no point did he attempt to grab the girl or coerce her into the car, but that does not diminish the gravity of this crime or the effect it has had on the victim.

“It is therefore extremely important we find this man so that he cannot do this again.”

The offender is described as white, in his 30s, with short black hair and a beard and was said to be wearing a green T-shirt.

He is also thought to speak with a Salford accent, possibly from the Ordsall area.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information and have warned children and teenagers to stay safe when walking the streets alone.

“I would appeal to anyone who sees this man or this car to ignore him and call police immediately,” DC Quinn said.

“I would also urge children who are out walking to keep to well-lit areas, stick with friends where possible and if you see any suspicious behaviour do not hesitate to call police.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
