Northern Quarter pub The Rose & Monkey has been acquired by Band on the Wall.
The venue has become part of Band on the Wall’s family in a deal announced this morning on the venue’s social media accounts.
Situated on Swan Street, The Rose & Monkey will continue to operate as before, with enhanced events programming and support from the award-winning venue next door.
Band on the Wall CEO Gavin Sharp said: “This acquisition allows us to expand our footprint while preserving one of Manchester’s most cherished independent venues.
“Together, we aim to create even more opportunities for emerging artists and provide unforgettable experiences for music fans.”
The Rose & Monkey was built in 1783 and has long stood as a historical watering hole in the heart of Manchester.
Band on the Wall recently had a £3.5m physical transformation, and is named for the venue’s 20th-century stage layout, where musicians played halfway up the back wall to make room in the busy pub.
To celebrate the union between the two businesses, a jukebox with records curated by rock band Pixies, DJ Chris Hawkins, and the Band on the Wall team has recently been installed at The Rose and Monkey.
Band on The Wall is owned and operated by registered charity Inner City Music, and acted as the hub for Manchester Folk Festival this March.
