Black Friday strikes hit Amazon again

Amazon workers across 30 countries are striking today.

The planned Black Friday strikes in the UK are taking place outside Amazon’s HQs in both London and Manchester, as well as in Coventry and Birmingham.

The strikes are part of a campaign called ‘Make Amazon Pay’, which brings together trade unions, climate activists and labour rights organisations.

This includes GMB Union, UNI Global Union, Global Justice Movement, and many other social justice groups.

Their aim is making Amazon pay fairer wages, as well as holding the company accountable for other issues such as tax avoidance and its impact on the planet.

The international campaign has caused annual strikes on Black Friday since 2019.

A representative from the GMB Union, Rachel Fagan, said: “These strike dates will bring total days lost to industrial action to nearly 30.

“This is an unprecedented and historic moment with low paid workers taking on one of the world’s most powerful corporations.

“This is our members’ response to the failure of Amazon bosses to listen. As Black Friday looms, Amazon must urgently reconsider their priorities or risk strike action causing widespread disruption to customers and the public.”

Mancunian Matters will be attending the protest with more coverage to follow.

Mancunian Matters have approached Amazon for comment.
