WATCH: Dramatic footage of Altrincham jewellery heist of watches worth £180,000

CCTV footage of a frightening high-value heist which saw an Altrincham jewellers lose hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of watches has been released by police in a bid to catch the crooks.

At around 12.20pm on Wednesday June 10, four men dressed in dark clothes and balaclavas burst into David M Robinson jewellers on Railway Street, using a battering ram to break down the security door.

Once in, they pushed the shop’s security guard into the building and ordered him to lie on the floor.

One of the robbers then used a metal pole to stop the shop’s security shutters from closing, while two more went on a rampage, smashing glass cabinets and bagging up 13 watches worth £186,820.

Halfway through the recording, we see the smoke cloak security system activated as the building fills with a thick smog, giving the quartet their chance to flee into a black Land Rover which sped away from the scene.

It was later found abandoned just over a mile away on Ashworth Close in Bowdon, with police now believing the offenders changed vehicle to a white Mercedes which was parked on Hopkins Field, just a few streets away.

Detective Inspector Carl Gilbert said: “We are still hunting for these men, who made off with a substantial amount of jewellery.

“Detectives are still appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the heist itself, or the offenders in the act of escaping to contact us.

“We believe they may have changed car at around 12.45pm on Wednesday June 10, so we would like to ask anyone who may have been in the area at the time to contact police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7530 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
