Stockport carjacking: Heartless thief holds blade to mother’s throat in front of terrified six-year-old son

By Danielle Wainwright

A mother and her six-year-old son were robbed at knife point on Thursday in Stockport as a callous thug held a blade to the woman’s throat as she got into her car.

The 42-year-old woman had just left the Tesco Express on Church Road with her son at around 7.30pm when she was followed to her black Ford Galaxy.

As she got into her car the robber got into the passenger seat, held a knife to her throat and demanded cash and her mobile phone.

He then ordered the family, as well as their dog, out of the car and drove off toward Styal Road. He then crashed in to another vehicle and it was later found abandoned in Nearbrook Road, Benchill.

PC Kevin Martin, based at Cheadle Heath police station, said: “What kind of person would threaten a mother with a knife in front of her young boy?

“I’m sure everyone will share our revulsion at this and will do their utmost to help us catch this criminal.

“It happened in a busy car park and I am extremely confident that a number of shoppers would have seen this incident.

“I also want to hear from anyone who saw a black Ford Galaxy, with a damaged front end, speed off from the scene and drive towards Benchill.”

The offender is described as white in his late 20s, taller than 5ft 9in with a slim build, clean shaven, with green or blue eyes. He also has a Manchester accent and was wearing a black beany or wooly hat with a black or dark blue jacket, possibly jeans carrying a black rucksack.

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 9770 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
