Around £25,000 worth of narcotics was seized by police last week as officers in Wigan clamp down on drug activity in the borough – the ‘driving force’ behind many other crimes.
Drug-related offences resulted in ten arrests in the Platt Bridge area of Wigan with the suspects bailed pending further enquiries.
Between Monday and Thursday last week, officers carried out 11 warrants and seized around £25,000 worth of cannabis and cocaine.
Sergeant Steve Russell, from the Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Cracking down on drugs in our communities is a big priority for police in Wigan and I hope this activity shows people in Platt Bridge just how seriously we are committed to doing this.
“Drugs are a huge driving force behind many other crimes such as burglary, robbery and vehicle crime, and that is why we are determined to root out all those involved in this trade.”
The raids come after Wigan police seized more than £20,000 in cash and a large quantity of drugs from a West Leigh household on April 4.
Officers are now committed to tackling narcotic use in Greater Manchester and are appealing to the public for information on any drug dealing in their area.
Sergeant Russell said: “For anyone that is involved in drugs related activity, I hope this sends out a strong warning that not only will we arrest anyone to be found involved in drugs supply, but through Proceeds of Crime Act legislation, we will also take any money and assets that have been made from illegal activity.
“If anyone has any information about drug dealing in their area in Wigan, please contact your local officers on 101 and we will investigate this thoroughly.”
Information can also be passed on anonymously to police by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
