Manchester saw the third highest crime rate in the UK in 12 months, according to new data.
Burglar alarm manufacturer ADT has released data that led into last Christmas, showing from 2020 to 2021 year-on-year crime rates in Greater Manchester increased by 30.55%.
Total recorded crimes for the area grew 26.43% at the same time.
The Greater Manchester area saw a crime rate of 106.76 per 1,000 population. Violence against the person took up 45.83% of all crimes in the area.
ADT said: “This is still very much apparent as even a year later armed officers are being deployed to patrol the Manchester Christmas Markets due to the increase in robbery and knife crime.”
Nationally, only drug offences and miscellaneous crimes against society decreased between 2020 and 2021.
Greater Manchester Police continue to work to reduce these crime rates with Operation Venture.
Deputy mayor of Greater Manchester Bev Hughes said on Monday: “The launch of Operation Venture demonstrates Greater Manchester’s determination to rid our streets of weapons and keep our communities, particularly our young people, safe from violent crime.”
