Caketober’s bake-off whips up storm as charity Forever Manchester eye £50million target

By Tim Hyde

Caketober’s recipe for fundraising success will continue with a bake-off at Manchester’s Grill on New York Street this Wednesday as event hosts theEword push towards their £50million target.

Contestants will put their baking skills to the test for a city-centre bake-off in support of the regional development charity, Forever Manchester, as they seek to hit their target to be shared among community projects.

“We are excited that so many of Manchester’s finest have volunteered to participate in our Caketober celebrity bake-off,” said Al Mackin, CEO and founder of theEword and Forever Manchester ambassador.

“Our company is 100 per cent behind helping Forever Manchester reach its £50million target. With some of the region’s top names going for gold, we expect the competition to be fierce.”

Competitors will enter a homemade cake of their choice before having their creations undergo blind judging by a four-person panel.

The winner will be crowned Caketober’s 2013 bake-off king or queen by expert judges from the Manchester area.

Attendees will be able to enjoy a Caketober cocktail specially designed for the event as well as participating in a charity raffle which includes prizes from Manchester-inspired artwork by illustrator Si Scott.

Katie Yates, Grill’s business development manager, said her team were looking forward to hosting the event.

“theEword has done a great job in bringing the Manchester business community together to support this worthwhile cause,” she said.
