Wigan teenager left ‘terrified for own safety’ after late night robbery at knife-point

By Neil Robertson

A teenager was left ‘terrified for his own safety’ after being threatened with a knife while assaulted during a Wigan robbery earlier this month.

The 18-year-old man’s bike was stolen during the attack in a wooded area of Mesnes Park at around 10:50pm on June 3.

He was riding his bike when one of the attackers ran across his path causing him to brake and it was then that the teenager was kicked in his side, fell to the ground and threatened with a knife.

The first attacker stole his bike while the second attacker stole his jacket and then both ran off.

Detective Constable Danny Ritchie from INPT Wigan West said: “These two men kicked and threatened the victim with a knife, leaving a young man terrified for his own safety.”

The first attacker is described as white, 6ft tall, of stocky build, wearing a dark outdoor jacket with the hood up and a black balaclava.

The second is described as white, 5ft tall, of skinny build, in his late teens, wearing a black baseball cap and a grey waterproof jacket.

The stolen bike is described as a yellow BMX with a white seat and black forks.

Detective Constable Danny Ritchie added: “I understand the park is large but I would ask anyone who may have been walking through and either witnessed the assault or saw two men fitting the descriptions given to call us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 9188, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
