Girl, 15, viciously raped on late night walk home in Gorton – attacker may have pounced from gang of 12

By Sam Richardson

A 15-year-old girl came forward this week to reveal her terrifying rape ordeal as she walked home down a floodlit pathway in Gorton.

The rapist is believed to have come from a group of 12 youths that the girl saw only minutes before the attack.

The incident happened on Wednesday May 22 between 9pm and 10pm, as the teen walked down the path which cuts between Glencastle Road and Sanby Avenue.

She was grabbed and pushed to the ground in a grassy area behind the houses on Sanby Avenue and subjected to a vicious rape.

Although the attack happened last month, it has only been reported to police in the last few days.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Peach said: “It is being treated as an isolated incident but we will be patrolling the area in the coming days to offer some reassurance to the community and to seek out witnesses.

“When the girl walked down the path she saw a group of around 12 youths and it is believed her attacker was amongst them. We want to directly appeal to that group for information.

“We are keen for anyone with information about what happened to call police and help us with our enquiries.”

Detective Chief Inspector Peach urged anyone who might have been at the scene of the incident, but lacked the courage to stop it to come forward now.

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 3101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
