Your dog could star in Legally Blonde the Musical when the show comes to Manchester

Legally Blonde the Musical is coming to Manchester – and your dog could be a part of the show.

The Tony-nominated production is on the hunt for a four-legged star for when it lands at the Palace Theatre in June.

Playing the role of Rufus, producers are mainly looking for a British Bulldog as it appeared in the hit film.

Those casting the role have admitted that they can overlook the breed of the pooch as long as it’s ‘fairly bullish and robust’.

The decision-makers are keen to see dogs auditioning for the role who have a good temperament.

All the pets must be respondent to basic commands, such as ‘sit’ and ‘come here’.

They’re not, however, expected to do tricks – though it will work to their advantage if they’re able to perform something special during their time in front of the producers.

Each dog put forward for the role will have five minutes to impress during the auditions held at the Palace Theatre on Friday, February 2.

The pooch that’s chosen will then be able to launch its career in showbiz when the show plays in Manchester from Monday, June to Saturday, June 30.

Legally Blonde the film became a smash hit when it was released in 2001.

With Reese Witherspoon at the helm, the movie brought in $141m at the box office before spanning a sequel in 2003.

The musical version later debuted to critical acclaim when it opened on Broadway in 2007.

Fans of the franchise will remember that Rufus was the dog owned by Paulette Bonafonte, played by Jennifer Coolidge, in the film.

The part of Bruiser, Elle Wood’s pet Chihuahua, has already been cast for the upcoming musical.
