The family of an 18-year-old girl who tragically died after suffering a suspected allergic reaction following a meal at a Manchester burger bar, have paid tribute to their ‘beloved angel’.
Shahida Shahid from Salford was rushed to hospital on the evening of Friday January 9, after collapsing on Withy Grove in Manchester city centre. She sadly died a few days later.
Initial enquiries have established that Miss Shahid had been for a meal in the popular city centre restaurant Almost Famous prior to her collapse, and may have had an allergic reaction to her food.
A statement from her family said: “Our beloved angel Shahida, who was only 18 years old, was sadly taken away from us on the 12 January 2015.
“She was the light of our lives, our happiness and brought joy to many whom she met.”
The teenager was a Mathematics student at the University of Manchester and according to her family was an ‘avid Manchester United fan’.
“We were so proud of her many achievements but most of all, her generosity and her giving nature,” it read.
“She filled up our lives with her bubbly personality, her memorable laugh and her sense of humour.
“Our home and lives have been left empty without our little baby girl but she will never be forgotten in her passing.
“We are immensely thankful for all the love, messages and condolences from all who have met her or heard of her passing.”
A joint investigation between Greater Manchester Police and the Food Standards Agency has begun in order to establish the exact circumstances of Miss Shahid’s death.
