A Greater Manchester Police officer has been given a suspended prison sentence for possessing an indecent image of a child.
Lee John Ashcroft, 39, from Hyde, downloaded and viewed an eight-minute long Category A video – the most serious category – twice on August 17, 2018.
He has been sentenced to prison for 10 months, suspended for two years, while also being given a 12 month community order and 30 days in rehab.
Martha Dowd, Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West, said: “By downloading and viewing the video Lee Ashcroft, a serving police officer, betrayed his position of trust in the community in the most abhorrent way.
“His job was to uphold the law and protect the public; today he has been held accountable for actions which fell far short of upholding those responsibilities.”
Ashcroft must now sign the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and has also been fined £1500 for the costs.
