A security guard was saved from a serious injury by his helmet on Saturday when he was smashed over the head and robbed while surrounded by busy shoppers in Salford
At around 12.30pm, the guard was taking a cash box from Lidl supermarket on Fitzwarren Street to the security van when he was attacked by the two men.
They then hit the security guard over the head with a blunt weapon, but thankfully he was protected by his helmet. They went to steal the cash box, however, the dye pack was activated and the robbers left it in the supermarket car park.
The offenders who were all wearing balaclavas and dark clothing then made off in a waiting gold-coloured vehicle from the car park, heading towards Liverpool Street.
Detective Constable Cathy Blain, of Salford INPT, said: “This happened in a busy supermarket car park full of shoppers on a Saturday afternoon.
“This was a traumatic experience for the guard, who was wearing a helmet at the time, which saved him a serious injury.
“These offenders are dangerous people who are not frightened to use violence, and have no fear of carrying out attacks in front of the public.
“Due to the activation of the dye, the offenders will have dye on their body. We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who knows the identity of the offenders involved to contact us.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
