Ex-cop behind bars AGAIN: Officer who killed man and left wife disabled in Urmston hit-and-run flouts driving ban

A former Police officer who was jailed after a collision in Urmston which killed a man and left his wife permanently disabled is back in prison after ignoring his driving ban on 30 occasions.

Mohammed Mian, 35, of Gredle Close, Urmston, was jailed in 2009 and handed a five year driving disqualification after pleading guilty to death by dangerous driving.

In 2009, Mian admitted causing death by dangerous driving after hitting Steve Campbell’s and his wife Rosemary as they were rossing the road in Urmston.

The former Metropolitan Police officer was driving at nearly 60mph on a 30mph road.

He hit Mr Campbell, 49, with such force that his leg was severed in the crash.

He was thrown more than 100ft away from the point of impact and died at the scene from multiple injuries. His wife was thrown 45ft.

Mrs Campbell’s leg had to be amputated and she spent six days in a coma following the crash.

Mian, who had a string of speeding convictions, initially drove off but later returned to the scene, police he ‘heard a smash and someone hit the windscreen’.

On Thursday, he was sent back to prison for four months and issued with a further 12 month driving ban at Trafford Magistrates Court after repeatedly flouting his original disqualification.

Speaking at the sentencing, the Chair of the Bench said: “Your blatant disregard for Court Orders is quite frankly astonishing.”

Police arrested Mian on Wednesday after he was caught driving a green Mercedes on Humphrey Lane in Urmston.

It was later found that he had ignored the ban on 29 other occasions to drive to work.

Sergeant Lee Westhead of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Mian treated his disqualification with contempt and showed no remorse for his actions.

“The Serious Collision Investigation Unit will not tolerate driving from those persons disqualified having been convicted of causing death or serious injury on the roads of Manchester.

“We will pursue such people endlessly and go to great lengths to gather evidence against them.”
