This – bloody good cause – needs to be discussed more. Once a Month is a student-led charity that provides period products to homeless people around Manchester. Their recent fundraiser will help them supply more of these products, and raise awareness about this taboo subject. Period poverty, which refers to a lack of access to sanitary products, means that homeless women must often resort to re-using sanitary products, or using old clothes to manage their period. #periodpoverty #manchester #fyp #charity

Period poverty refers to a lack of access to menstrual products and safe sanitation facilities. Homeless women in the UK are often forced to re-use sanitary products, or use old clothes in order to manage their periods, according to The Independent.

Experts from charities such as Women’s Aid, MASH, and The Crimson Wave spoke at the event to highlight the importance of reproductive health, womens’ wellbeing, and access to period products.

Held at Withington Public Hall, the inside of the venue was decorated with glittery tampons and specially-made artworks.
