Representatives from womens’ charities across Manchester spoke at fundraiser event for period poverty last week.
Organised by student society Once a Month, proceeds from the event will go towards giving away period products to homeless people across Greater Manchester.
Period poverty refers to a lack of access to menstrual products and safe sanitation facilities. Homeless women in the UK are often forced to re-use sanitary products, or use old clothes in order to manage their periods, according to The Independent.
Experts from charities such as Women’s Aid, MASH, and The Crimson Wave spoke at the event to highlight the importance of reproductive health, womens’ wellbeing, and access to period products.
Held at Withington Public Hall, the inside of the venue was decorated with glittery tampons and specially-made artworks.
